The reputation of Brassica vegetables as healthy foods rests in part on the activities of diindolylmethane, which has been shown in studies to be beneficial in fighting cancers as well as improving estrogen metabolism in men and women.
DIM is also used to treat viral infections and bacteria resistant to antibiotics by boosting the immune system.
DIM is fat soluble, so is best taken with food containing healthy omega-3 fats such as walnuts, avocado, coconut oil, etc. Only a teaspoon of oil is required to significantly improve absorption of DIM as well as other fat-soluble vitamins and minerals.
The effective dose appears to be around 100 mg to 200 mg daily.
Di-Indolyl Methane is the direct metabolite of I3C (Indole-3-Carbinol) and twice as strong at about half the price.
How DIM worksDIM has the ability to alter the prdeominant pathway in estrogen production.
Estrones can be formed as 16-alpha-hydroxyetrones, 4-hydroxyestrones or 2-hydroxyestrones. DIM does not significantly affect 4-hydroxyestrones, but does inhibit the cancer-causing, fat-soluble 16-alpha-hydroxyestrones, while promoting the cancer-defeating, water-soluble 2-hydroxyestrones. The liver and kidneys can then flush out bad estrogens, along with various toxins, which would otherwise be recycled by the liver over and over again.
DIM for WomenDIM can help western women, who usually have excessive estradiol and estrone levels, but deficient estriol levels, causing a variety of female medical problems.
DIM for MenMen over 50 typically have higher estradiol and estrone levels than their postmenopausal wives, causing BPH (Benign Prostate Hypertrophy), Gynocomastia (man-boobs) and other conditions.
DIM helps lower these bad estrogen levels and helps prevent what little testosterone may be left from turning into estrogen, which typically happens more as men age. LeanMachine has DIM available here.
