Selenium is an essential trace mineral found in soil and water.
Due to over-intensive farming practices, and Australia's low selenium content in soil to start with, very little Selenium is found in everyday modern foods, especially processed foods.
Plants and yeast naturally convert selenium into organically bound protein forms of minerals.
SelenoExcell contains selenium in this organically bound natural food form for improved bioavailability.
Selenium is essential for production of L-Glutathione, the body's "master antioxidant".
Foods high in selenium (depending on where the food comes from) include:
Brazil nuts, mushrooms, eggs, meat, sunflower seeds.
SelenoExcell is the high selenium yeast used in numerous human clinical studies and is Generally Regarded As Safe (GRAS) by the United States Food and Drug Administration.

Selenium is a powerful antioxidant mineral.
Scientific evidence shows that consumption of selenium may reduce the risk of certain forms of cancer, especially prostate, bladder, thyroid and breast cancers. One NCBI study found a 35% reduction in overall cancers, 64% reduction in cancer deaths, and 8% reduction in all-cause deaths. However there was a very small rise in the generally harmless skin cancers squamous cell carcinomas and basal cell carcinomas, although this study was focused in patients susceptible to those particular skin conditions, so may not apply to the general population.

Selenium can help protect the heart from toxic mercury levels which have shown to increase heart attacks, strokes and other heart conditions. Selenium binds with the mercury to change the mercury into a less toxic form, and then allows it to be more easily excreted from the body.

Selenium is essential for 11 selenoenzymes (selenoproteins).
There are two major families of selenoenzymes, glutathione peroxidases and deiodinases.
Glutathione peroxidases converts lipid hydroperoxides (oxidised fats), which causes heart disease and stroke, to less harmful components.
Deiodinase enzymes regulate the metabolism of thyroid hormones. Selenium is the primary mineral responsible for T4 to T3 (thyroid hormones) conversion in the liver.
Recently discovered, selenoenzyme thioredoxin reductase has been linked to vitamin C metabolism.
Selenium deficiency can cause Keshan disease, or cardiomyopathy (heart muscle disease).
Those especially requiring selenium are people with frequent blood donations, those on dialysis, or those suffering from HIV or Crohn's disease which reduces absorption.
Some researchers have found that diabetics have more selenium than non-diabetics, so assume that selenium gave them diabetes. However other larger studies have proven that diabetes risk is lowest among those with the highest selenium levels (by examining selenium in toenail clippings from thousands of people) which is more accurate because this gives average selenium levels over the last year.

Suggested Use
1 tablet daily.
Do not exceed recommended dose.
Doses over 400 mcg daily is the recommended maximum, although to treat some cancers, no toxicity has been recorded at up to 5000mcg taken as two divided doses of 2500mcg daily on an empty stomach, according to Frank Reigel of Frank Riegel Natural Therapies. LeanMachine recommends any high-dose use should be carried out under the supervision of your health practitioner.
Many people cannot get enough for the RDA (Recommended Daily Allowance) of 50 mcg from diet alone, especially from processed foods.
Additional benefits may be obtained by taking this product with vitamin E. Selenium can cause issues when taken with high-dose Niacin (Vitamin B3).
